Glory Books Ministry

Glory Books Ministry is a non-profit ministry whose purpose is to make the Glory of God books available either for free or at cost (depending on the need and the situation) for missionaries, mission groups, inner city churches, hospitals, military bases, pastor’s conferences and such, and to have the books translated into different languages. This ministry came into existence not only at my surprise but also in spite of my great reluctance to do this. Here is the shortened version.

Before The Cup and the Glory was published I used to receive unsolicited money from people who would have me print out copies and tell me to send them to people who I thought needed them. Some would be sent via email attachment. This went on for about ten years. To this day I have no idea where all the pre-published copies ended up. Once the book was published, it was no longer necessary to do this because the books were readily made available through the publisher God had raised up.

A few months back (in another very long story), I was repeatedly “pestered” by a friend of mine to start a non-profit ministry to which people could make tax-deduction contributions for the Glory of God books to be given to such places described in the first paragraph. I repeatedly replied, “I do not want to do this. I was an English Lit. major. I have no business skills nor time to develop them.” Because my friend would not relent, I sought godly counsel on what to do about this, and much to my abject amazement, instead of agreeing with me, they agreed with my friend’s recommendation. So, that being said, we have stepped out by faith to begin Glory Books Ministry to see what God does with this.

I must confess that I have already seen God’s hand in providentially bringing this into existence. Just days after starting the process of the non-profit ministry, we began contracting with two different translators to have The Cup and the Glory and the study guide translated into Spanish and into Arabic. (The German translation for The Cup and the Glory is due out in September 2010). We are in the final part of having this translated into Mandarin. We will probably do other languages as things develop.

Many times I have been asked are the books translated in to “such and such” a language. If you or a church want to “adopt a language” or a country, we will purchase the work of the best translators we can find (and we currently have world class translators), and will get the books translated when we have the funds to do so, and then see about how best to disperse the books with like-minded mission groups or missionaries once they are done. If you want to purchase books in bulk and donate them, we will try to send it to where you designate, or if not designated, we will do as we did before and send them to where we already have requests for them to go.
